TSA Upgrades You Should Be Familiar With Before You Fly

These days flying can be an experience filled with long delays, TSA checks (transport security administration) standing in line and a lot of frustration. It’s hard to imagine that taking a flight was ever regarded as sophisticated when these days the average experience feels more like the retreat from Leningrad , despite the often high cost of the ticket.

To keep your travel experience as smooth as possible, being aware of TSA upgrades before you fly will help you (and the people standing behind you in the line).

TSA Precheck

One way to improve your experience is to sign up to TSA Precheck. This service is operated by the US Government and available to all US citizens.

According to the government information, 98% of travellers waited less than 5 minutes. Even better there is no need to remove shoes, belts, liquids or food before you board if you have registered for TSA Precheck.

How to register for TSA Precheck?

The first step is to apply online and then schedule an appointment at one of the 380 plus centres.  The enrolment process lasts around 10 minutes and includes finger printing for a back ground check.

Once your application has been processed you are provided with a known traveller number which you can then add to your reservation. This guarantees that you can now bypass TSA checks so makes the whole process much easier and faster.

If you don’t want to register for TSA Precheck, you can take steps to assure that boarding the plane is a streamlined as possible.

Remember your liquids

Attempting to carry liquids onto the plane will see them removed by security. To prevent this from happening, ensure that your liquids are less than 3.4 fl oz and placed in a see- through plastic bag.

Make sure that your luggage does not exceed size restrictions

This is not for security reasons but is a way for the airline to generate extra revenue. It is crucial to weigh your luggage and measure it so that it does not exceed size restrictions. If you don’t, you will waste time on arguing and money on paying extra.

Put all your electrical gadgets together

Your phone, your laptop, your camera, your e reader, the various leads and power supplies; we all carry loads of gadgets and they all need to be checked at security.

Make sure they are easily accessible and packed together in order to avoid wasting time at security.

Get the Airline App

Having the information on your smart phone avoids the need to search for tickets and other information. Your app will also inform you if there are likely to be delays, helping you to plan accordingly.

Check real time status of flights

Although your airline app can be useful, they are not so good for providing information regarding delays. One app is FlightApps which is great for keeping you up to date with the latest flight information.
