Tennessee is about to get a lot more French. Later this year, a new theme park called France in the Smokies is set to open its doors in the town of Sevierville. Touted as the first and only international theme park in the United States, France in the Smokies will transport visitors to the streets of Paris, complete with replicas of some of the city’s most iconic landmarks.
In addition to its Eiffel Tower replica (the second tallest in North America), France in the Smokies will feature a scaled down version of the Arc de Triomphe, as well as a replica of the Louvre Museum. Visitors will be able to take in views of the park from atop a Ferris wheel, or enjoy a ride on a riverboat that cruises through an artificial canal.
While the park’s attractions are sure to be a hit with visitors of all ages, France in the Smokies will also offer a unique dining experience, with a number of French-inspired restaurants and cafes set to open on site. There will even be a crêperie, where guests can enjoy traditional French pancakes.
Who is Behind the Project and Why They Choose Tennessee
France in the Smokies is the brainchild of French entrepreneur Loïc Peyrot, who has been working on the project for over a decade. Peyrot first came up with the idea for the park while living in Los Angeles, where he was often homesick for his native France.
Peyrot initially envisioned the park as a way to bring a little bit of France to Southern California. But after doing some research, he realized that Tennessee would be a better location for the project. Not only is the state home to a large number of French-Americans, but it also boasts a booming tourism industry.
In fact, according to Peyrot, Tennessee was the perfect choice for his project. “I realized that there was a great opportunity to create something really special in the Smoky Mountains,” he told reporters.
Construction of the Park is Already Underway
Peyrot first announced his plans for France in the Smokies back in 2015, and construction of the park is already well underway. The project is being funded entirely by private investment, and Peyrot says he has already raised over $100 million.
When it opens later this year, France in the Smokies is expected to attract more than 1.5 million visitors in its first year of operation. And if all goes according to plan, the park will eventually expand to include additional attractions and even more replicas of French landmarks.
Unique Features of This Theme Park
France in the Smokies will offer visitors a truly unique experience, blending elements of both France and the United States. In addition to its French-inspired attractions and dining options, the park will also feature a number of American-style rides and attractions.
There will be something for everyone in France in the Smokies, making it the perfect destination for a family vacation. And with its convenient location in Tennessee, the park is sure to become a popular tourist attraction for visitors from all over the country.
