Submission Guidelines

What Are the submission guidelines for vagueterrain.net?

If you have been invited to submit to an upcoming issue, or are wondering what submission entails, this page is an evolving resource that outlines our policies. As the body of work we've featured grows it becomes increasingly clear that we are building an archive of searchable content. Vague Terrain needs to ensure that it can control the consistancy and formatting of line material but also that it possesses adequate backup material.

When planning a submission consider the following:

1. Do you want to do a detailed documentation of a specific project? If so provide a variety of media and accompanying captions/statements.
2. Do you want to provide a "window" into your creative practice? If so, provide media/documentation of several pieces and contextualize them through writing/statements.
3. If you are providing material that has been published or displayed elsewhere please acknowledge this in your supporting text/statement.

Notes on Editing

It is up to you to self-edit and proof your submission. We will be happy to fine-tune it but please be a "responsible contributor" and submit as concise, and as well organized of a selection of material as possible. We reserve the right to reject inadequately edited content.

Also, all authors and artists are responsible for obtaining their own translation and editing services. While we are happy to provide a "finishing" editing pass we reserve the right to reject submissions that are inadequately edited.

In addition to the above considerations, please ensure that you have provided the following deliverables.

Deliverables
All artists:
1. A short Bio, max 200 words.
2. Frontis image to accompany work. This is NOT to be a press photo of the artist but an image related to the work. Images of artists are only acceptable if the piece being submitted is documenting a performance.
3. A thumbnail headshot that is at least 100 pixels high.

Audio:
1. 256 KBPS MP3 files.
2. Information stating your name, track title(s) and any release liner notes, contact information, website, etc.

Images/Muiltimedia:
1. If the images are static, submit web optimized images of at least 640 pixels width at 72 DPI. If you are not familiar with web-optimizing images you can submit a high resolution TIFF and we will do the conversion. Please do not put captions on your image - provide us with the text and we will add them underneath.
2. If you are submitting video content, please do so in .flv format. Some basic info about .flv file format is available here.
3. Titles/information, contact information, website, etc.

Text:
1. A .ext or an .rtf file
2. Information stating your name, text title, contact information, website, etc. Also, if the text is being republished from another source.. please provide the name of the publication and standard bibliographic information as well as a related website as to acknowledge the original source.
3. As a general rule of thumb texts should not exceed 3000 words. We are open to longer texts, but we find longer texts a bit counterintuitive to web-reading.
4. Please submit related images to accompany your text, see our "Images/Multimedia" guidelines for our preferences for image submissions.

Submitting work:
Email submissions are NOT acceptable as they cause undo confusion for all parties involved. Material must be submitted by FTP - contact the curator of your issue for FTP.
