Project Info Vague Terrain is a web based digital arts publication that showcases the creative practice of a variety of artists, musicians and scholars. The project aspires to apply the focus and methodologies of academic and art journals and the tenacity and specificity of independent record labels to examine contemporary digital culture in an immediate and accessible manner. Content consists of curated visual, audio and written works, and now a companion blog. For better and worse this project is neither peer reviewed nor funded. All work on this site is published under an Attribution-Noncommercial-Share Alike Creative Commons License unless otherwise noted. Timeline Vague Terrain was launched in fall 2005 by Neil Wiernik and Greg J. Smith. Thus far we've published sixteen issues of our journal and have collaborated with guest curators David McCallum, Carrie Gates, CONT3XT.NET, Rob Cruickshank, Paul Prudence, Kim Cascone and Joshua Noble. We're in the midst of transitioning this project from a web-journal into a more community oriented platform, so bear with us as this site is an ongoing work in progress. Salutations We'd like to extend a big thank you to Crispin Bailey and Patricia Rodriguez at Substance Communications and Lookdeeper for their ongoing input into our design & accessibility. We'd also like to thank Matmos for continuing to not sue us. Vague Terrain is the alternate recording alias and label name of said Baltimore-based dynamic duo and they have been quite gracious about our use of the moniker over the last four years. Site Credits This site is built via the Drupal content management system. The design is a rejigged version of the Pixture theme. Our RSS feed is optimized/distributed through FeedBurner. All design/styling by Mission Specialist. |
